Day #2 Roland and Lizzy

We had a very full Saturday.  It couldn't have been more perfect!
First we went to Sorrento, which is the northern-most town along the Amalfi coast. We walked along the narrow quaint streets where there are a million cute shops.

We passed a little wood making shop where they make wooden puppets.  We got this picture of the girls.

They picked out their favorite post card.....

We stopped by a small shop where they make handmade inlaid wood jewelry boxes.  The girls each picked out their favorite.

Then we drove down to the prettiest beach which is in the town of Furore.  The girls and Roland went swimming and Lizzy and I stayed on the beach.  You have to go down lots and lots of old stairs to get down to this little secret hide a way of a beach.  The water was so clear.  The beaches do not have soft sand in most places on the Mediterranean.  This one was small gravel size rocks, which are a little hard on the feet. Our day was way hot, and so the water felt very refreshingly cool.

The picture below is the view of our private beach from up on top of the bridge pictured above. You can see all the stairs on the left, which we had to climb down to get to the beach.  We met a couple though who rapelled down the rocks on the right side of the cove.

The next picture was taken by Paul as he was getting his steps in and he hiked way up above the cove.

This is a view along the cove where there were several old houses along the beach.

Lizzy is on the beach to the far left and you can see Isabel in her black suit coming out of the water.

After enjoying the water for an hour or so, we got back in the van and drove to the town of Amalfi.  The girls and I counted how many stairs up to the entrance of the famous caedral there.

There are 62 up and of course 62 down!

Grandpa then drove the van to Salerno, and the rest of us took a boat ride from Amalfi to Salerno.

The girls were a little afraid to go on the boat, but they ended up really liking it.  We rode on the upper deck.  It started to rain just as we got to Salerno.  Most everyone got down below, except Roland and Isabel, who braved it up on top the whole way.

In Salerno, we met Paul, and we went to Alfredo's house in Salerno.  He invited us and the missionaries over for Pizza.  We wanted him to meet Roland and Lizzy.  The girls played in his daughters room, and discovered that Barbie dolls are pretty much the same in Italy as they are in the USA.

Our friend Maria was there also, who we got to know when her catholic choir and our little branch choir have sung together on two different occasions.  She is one of the nicest people I have ever met.  I would so love for her to accept the gospel.  She brought a typical plate of Italian cookies.

We all got home safely and went right to bed after a fun filled day.
